Overview of the Adapt Development Project
The Adapt Development Project is a self-funded, long-term, R&D project to develop a radically new software architecture and application development technology.
The vision is for Adapt to become the primary means for software development across all types of computing devices.
Adapt enables the creation of truly ‘adaptable applications’ which are inherently changeable and able to explain what they do and how they do it both to users as well as to other applications. The high degree of adaptability, added to a lack of artificial limitations imposed by the technology, means that the process of developing an application can be orders of magnitude simpler than with existing methods and will achieve a much closer fit to the user’s requirements. There is no limit to the scope or the scale of Adapt applications, indeed Adapt itself had been developed utilising its own technology.
The changeability inherent within Adapt means that an application can be continually modified and enhanced as the user's needs evolve and develop.
It is anticipated that the open, structured architecture of Adapt will also enable the use of virtual reality (VR) technology to 'see' inside applications and to make design changes as required. Application designers will be able to use VR headsets to ‘walk around’ within a 3D graphical representation of a hierarchy of applications to examine their linkage, modify the application functionality and improve their integration.
In addition, Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems will be able to be used to both improve the integration of applications and to facilitate the automatic generation of new ones.
There is currently nothing comparable available, so the potential for success is enormous.
